Economic blockade in Manipur enters 93rd day, 48 hr bandh call | Deccan Chronicle

The crippling economic blockades on two national highways in Manipur entered the 93rd day today, even as one of the sponsors called for a 48-hour bandh in five hill districts from midnight tonight to mount pressure on the government.

A spokesman of the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) said a 48-hour bandh has been called in Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur districts.

Officials from the Department of Health and the United Nations immediately headed to the Jose Fabella Memorial medical Center after learning of the birth of Danica May Camacho, second daughter of Camille Camacho and Florante Galura of Antipolo City.

However, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said they can only be sure until the World Health Organization receives all application and decides on who the world’s seventh billion baby really is.

Media is yet to report on other babies vying for the title."

The Telangana agitation has cast a shadow on the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day celebrations to be held on November 1. Most of the cabinet ministers from the Telangana region have decided to stay away from official functions fearing a backlash from the people in their respective districts.

As per the three- decade old tradition, the ministers are expected to unfurl the national flag in their respective districts, take the guard of honour and attend cultural programmes.

He also threatened that if the government tries to break his fast forcibly, he will commit suicide.

Addressing a news conference in Nizamabad during his 'Jana Chetna Yatra', he said there was no need for a resolution to be passed by any assembly for the formation of a new state.

"The constitution of India does not provide anything of that sort. There is no need for any assembly resolution," he said.

On Tuesday, not a single bus was allowed to enter the Telangana region. Members of the Joint Action Committee for Telangana say that the protests are being conducted by people of the region themselves and without the committee's consent. However, the JAC has no complaints and says that this is how they wanted the movement to be.
